A good whiskey has a good heritage, and Chattanooga whiskey is among the best.
A long time ago, Tennessee, a state recognized for patriots, rolling hills, music, and whiskey, was home to an entrepreneur that established a trading post on the banks of the Tennessee River: Ross’s Landing. The year was 1816, the man was John Ross, and that trading post would later become Chattanooga.
50 years later, JW Kelly & Co. – the oldest known Chattanooga distillery – was established. That same year, the most recognized Tennessee whiskey in the world was created just 85 miles down the road. Chattanooga’s whiskey industry would continue to thrive, with more than 30 documented distillers and wholesalers pitching in. Unfortunately, in the name of Prohibition, the last local distillery closed its doors in 1915.
Today, nearly a century has passed since that last distillery operated in Chattanooga. As a city recognized for artisans, artists, and entrepreneurs, a major piece of Chattanooga’s heritage has been forgotten.
It’s time to bring whiskey back to Chattanooga.
Our 1816 Reserve is the finest whiskey you can buy. We want every sip to embody the spirit of Chattanooga. We hand-select and individually proof each batch to achieve our refined, exquisitely smooth flavor profile.
We can only think of one thing that would make us more proud of our whiskey: making it right here in our hometown. Due to a number of legal technicalities we can’t actually distill it inside the city limits.
Yet.
We here at Chattanooga Whiskey Company are fully committed to our local community. Any time we can buy, eat, or hire locally, we do. Our hope is to make Chattanooga whiskey in Chattanooga again and help enhance the economy we love. It’s going to take a lot of long hours and a lot of hard work. Most of all, it’s going to take a lot of support, not just from the locals but from whiskey lovers all over.
So, join us as we revive Chattanooga's proud heritage of finely crafted Tennessee whiskey and establish the first Chattanooga distillery in almost a century. Share our story with your friends and show your support for the real spirit of Chattanooga.
